The 2025 International Cell Phone Cinema Showcase took place on May 19, 2025, marking its 7th consecutive year at the Cannes Film Festival. 

 

Event Overview

• Venue: Eden Hotel Theater (133 Rue d'Antibes) in Cannes, France.

• Partnership: Hosted in conjunction with the official Marché du Film (Cannes Film Market).

• Motto: Under its permanent mission of media democratization, the showcase ran with its staple theme: "Great Films in Small Packages".

• Core Theme: While screening a broad spectrum of genres, the 2025 event heavily spotlighted The Environment and Climate Change, mirroring the primary focus of the main Cannes festival. 

 

New 2025 Initiatives & Highlights

Under the curation of NYU Professor Karl Bardosh, the 2025 lineup introduced several unique programs alongside the main smartphone short film awards: 

• Brazil Focus: To honor Brazil as the Country in Focus at the 2025 Marché du Film, the showcase presented cell phone short films made by 10 high-positioned Brazilian-American female executives from New York. 

• "Film and Fashion" Segment: The festival introduced a crossover segment featuring brief live fashion shows inside the theater by international designers from India and China.

• On-Screen Pitch Decks: A new business initiative allowed filmmakers to present pitch decks, storyboards, music, and voiceovers directly on screen to pitch upcoming film projects to investors. 

• Documentary Spotlight: The event featured the premiere of 'Shirley Maia-Cusick', a personal documentary shot on mobile devices tracking the journey of the first Brazilian woman to run for the U.S. Senate.
